Watching an eagle in flight is majestic enough to remind us that Minnesota's fierce two-year, so far, fight against a proposed $179 million wind farm near Red Wing, Minnesota is worth it. The Coalition for Sensible Siting (CSS) is a Minnesota Non-profit Corporation dedicated to raise and provide financial support to further citizens' voices in the industrial wind arena.
The state Public Utilities Commission (PUC) plans for this wind farm may result in the loss of more bald eagles, a protected species. Federal wildlife officials say that a developer may incur civil or even criminal action under federal laws if a bald eagle is felled by one of the massive blades. Drawing concern among some local farmers, is the probability that an even more rare species, the golden eagle may find the same fate.
An articles published on July 25 in the Star Tribune, says: "the federal Department of the Interior proposed new voluntary wildlife protection guidelines for wind projects..." Read more about how wind turbines affect our wild life, and the protected bald eagle in particular at www.startruibune.
